Day 2 of AdTech NYC 2010

Nov 7, 2010

Wednesday morning we got up and got ready to hit the show floor. Now in the past I’ve talked about how I see people wandering around the show not knowing which direction to hit. My plan is I usually start at one corner and just working up and down to the other side of the conference. The floor was packed the first day and I saw alot of people who came up and said they read my blog or thanked me for throwing the last public affiliate meetup/dinner at Maison at ASE. I noticed this year that there was alot more corporate types in the crowd than affiliates compared to adtech last year. My boy BoFu was manning his booth over at c2m talking it up with friends and new potential affiliates. I’m proud of him and I think it will be a very good fit over there at c2m with Ruck and the crew.

In all it took about 3 hours to hit all the booths and do my business at which point it was close to 2pm where at that point I had a business meeting at the London bar. While walking around the floor I ran into Shawn Collins and Missy Ward and said hi, I haven’t talked to them since ASE and Shawn reminded me of the meetup across form the london at the pub upstairs. So after my meeting with a couple people at the london we made our way over to the Aff Summit meetup which was a blast. I don’t know how many times I’ve mentioned how people throw parties but nobody every throws something where you can meetup talk eat and have a few drinks without loud music preventing you from networking. We stuck around the Aff Summit meetup with Shawn and Missy for a while until it was time to get ready for the Mailer Meetup, Epic Direct party, and the Engage BDR Party.

We headed back to the hotel and got ready and headed over to the mailer meetup. Now I gotta say this, I appreciate the sponsors and what was done to create a venue for mailers to get together and talk mailing stuff but from when I got there to when I left which was about an hour it was a constant pitch fest. I’m all for sponsors getting their worth out of sponsoring something but standing up in front of everyone talking your company up and talking about noob mailing techniques like junk code and getting servers in multiple datacenters is kinda stupid in my opinion. It was a meetup not a pitchfest, I felt like I was told to come get drinks but I had to sit through a pitch in order to get one like how they do those free cruises or vacations things for time shares and expect you to buy something at the end.

After that we quickly headed over to the Epic Direct party. We got up to the top floor and the party was bumping. Big shout out to my girl Audrey for sorting some things out and my new am Jack who I must say is one of the best go getters as far as aff managers go that I’ve seen at any company. The party was awesome and to make it even better in walked a huge ass case of whitecastle to which everyone started digging into and eating. Free food and free drinks with an awesome venue and great music made the Epic Direct party a blast. Soon after the epic party went from drink and food mode to full out dance mode to where the floor start shaking.

After the Epic party we bounced to the Engage BDR party over at GreenHouse. The place was crowded and I don’t think they were keeping track of capacity numbers because i could hardly move. It took me about 20 mins to get a drink as the bar there is small and it was about 5 people deep. Let me say this I almost took a guy out. When you are standing inline at the bar and especially if its an open bar and its 3 or 4 people deep waiting to get a drink don’t been the drunk ass that thinks you can just push yourself to the front and get infront of everyone. When you are all of 140lbs and a guy over twice your weight is standing infront and you try to push him aside yeah i’m telling you now you are lucky you backed off and went back to the party when I stared you down. I dunno why people just don’t wait their turn, oh well crisis adverted as i have yet to get into a fight at a conference. After we got our drinks and had them more people were coming in and it just got too crowded so we went outside. I met alot of other affs there outside in the smoking area and ended up standing outside for an hour smoking a cigar and talking to people.

At that point we were getting hungry so we decided to go to Maison to grab a bite. I love that place, so I met up with a couple other affs and grabbed some grub to finish the night. Best thing of all is Bobby Lee from MAD tv was there eating as well and one of the other affs grabbed a pic with him. Thanks to Ruck and Rob from c2m for picking up the tab, we all had a good time. It was a good way to end the night.
