How I prepare for a conference, and what I do that might help you.

How I prepare for a conference, and what I do that might help you.

Apr 10, 2011

One of the things people might have not done is attend a conference before. If you have the time and money I highly suggest it, especially if its an ASW or ASE. Usually the night before I pack my laptop, charging cords and misc cords, grab my business cards, and print out an iternary of my flights car rentals etc and stick it in the bag with me. If its adtech I grab my envelope with my passes in it and stuff it into my bag as well. When packing I usually pack all my dress shirts in bags already pressed and hung on hangers so all I gotta do is take them out and throw them in the closet in the room. This not only keeps the collars fresh and starched but also doesn’t wrinkle everything too much. As far as shoes my dress shoes stay in my bag and I travel with a pair of slip on rubber sole slippers. This makes it easy for security checks you just kick them off and kick them back on. If you ever seen the movie up in the air with george clooney the scene where he describes the quickest way to get through security yeah thats me. I always plan ahead, think wha ti need to take out, how many bins I need etc. For traveling on the plane I usually charge my ipod the night before and make sure I have a fresh battery in my Bose qc15 headphones. For reading material I usually grab the newest copy of Robb Report, if you don’t read it grab a copy if you can find it its the official magazine of internet marketers, affiliate marketers and ballers alike. For instance did you know the robb report did a 4 page spread on a suite in cesars palace that is 30k a night? Trust me it puts the playboy suite at the palms to shame. Anyway as far as flying I usually have a long day of traveling because of where I’m at and where I live, its usually atleast 2 connections but isn’t surprising that today will be 3. Today I’m traveling form IPT to...

Day 2 of AdTech NYC 2010

Day 2 of AdTech NYC 2010

Nov 7, 2010

Wednesday morning we got up and got ready to hit the show floor. Now in the past I’ve talked about how I see people wandering around the show not knowing which direction to hit. My plan is I usually start at one corner and just working up and down to the other side of the conference. The floor was packed the first day and I saw alot of people who came up and said they read my blog or thanked me for throwing the last public affiliate meetup/dinner at Maison at ASE. I noticed this year that there was alot more corporate types in the crowd than affiliates compared to adtech last year. My boy BoFu was manning his booth over at c2m talking it up with friends and new potential affiliates. I’m proud of him and I think it will be a very good fit over there at c2m with Ruck and the crew. In all it took about 3 hours to hit all the booths and do my business at which point it was close to 2pm where at that point I had a business meeting at the London bar. While walking around the floor I ran into Shawn Collins and Missy Ward and said hi, I haven’t talked to them since ASE and Shawn reminded me of the meetup across form the london at the pub upstairs. So after my meeting with a couple people at the london we made our way over to the Aff Summit meetup which was a blast. I don’t know how many times I’ve mentioned how people throw parties but nobody every throws something where you can meetup talk eat and have a few drinks without loud music preventing you from networking. We stuck around the Aff Summit meetup with Shawn and Missy for a while until it was time to get ready for the Mailer Meetup, Epic Direct party, and the Engage BDR Party. We headed back to the hotel and got ready and headed over to the mailer meetup. Now I gotta say this, I appreciate the sponsors and what was done to create a venue for mailers to get together and talk mailing...

ASE is now over, its friday and here’s the HeavyT Recap.

So I left you all off with me getting into NYC and checking into the London. Some people flew in that Saturday from another company and we went to get some grub since they had been flying all day and we all were hungry. We got back to the hotel and I called it a night since the meet market was the next day. I woke up Sunday morning around 8am to meet someone for breakfast who never woke up but go figure I wasn’t surprised. So I hit up Josh Todd since I had some breakfast credits at the London and then we both headed over to get out passes for the conference. The meet market was packed this year, there were a lot of good companies in attendance. I saw some new ones while chatted up some old ones I’ve known over the years and it was good to see everyone again. I later went back to the hotel after grabbing something to eat and hung out with a good crew of fellow affiliates at the london bar as I waited for someone to show who again didn’t, no surprise again, so a bunch of us headed over to the meetup 202 party at Touch. After hanging out there for a little and chatting it up with Wes, and Ryan we decided to leave for a planned dinner. Ian and Brandon and I headed over to the dinner with Kitara Media. We had a great time and the dinner portions at the Capitol Grille were huge. I’d like to thank them and Ian for inviting me to the party. After the dinner I decided to head back to the hotel and get ready for the always awesome Sharasale party at the Empire hotel. After going to this party I know it is always one of the big ones and make sure I get there early as they give out way more passes then capacity. While there I took some pics in the photo booth that I threw up at the bottom. I hung out at the party with my girls Kim and Sheena from Plenty of Fish and Marcus stopped by later...

In NYC for Affiliate Summit and just checked into The London

Its nice to be back in this hotel. After last year staying here I fell in love with it. There are also alot of celebs that stay here at the hotel. Surprisingly enough when I pulled up there were photographers and kids waiting outside to get a glimpse of someone. Last year during ASE I saw demi moore and ashton kutcher, puff daddy, lil wayne, the drummer form the pretenders, travis barker and lead singer from blink 182, and a couple sports players. Well after a long drive I checked into my hotel and I got a pretty nice room, I had a free upgrade available but since ase is here they are totally booked. Oh well…. I took some pics as usual of my room. See you around the floor...
