If an affiliate ran over six figures, how important are they to you?

Apr 16, 2011

Why am I posting this before my adtech recap you might ask, because I think its an important topic that begs the question, If an affiliate ran over six figures, how important are they to you? Let me ask this question, pose it to my readers. How important are affiliate relations to a company? How bad would it be to have an affiliate not taken care of who ran over 6 figures since the last conference. There is an affiliate that ran alot of traffic to a certain company that I know of. This affiliate cares alot about the manager/affiliate relationship as any should. But it seems that through out the last show his manager continually blew him off, as well as ignored attempts he made for them to meet with this manager. Now both individuals were there for a whole week, even tho the show wasn’t as long. Some background info, this affiliate who I “know” even 3 or 4 weeks ago made flight plans to go visit this company where there are located, to which the company agreed to put him up in a hotel for running as much money to the company as he did. This manager was supposed to show him the town he had never been to before, take in the sights, work at the company during the end of the week on his campaigns, and the weekend it was dinner, business, and being a tourist. This affiliate was then informed that because another pub could not decide what and where he wanted to meet this other manager, ie this manager was flying out to see this pub when he visits to the usa, that the other was more important and couldn’t lock down any time since she, oops, they wanted to keep their schedule open. Now back to adtech. This company, despite asking many times asking didn’t have anything planned but at the last minute a meet and greet was arranged but unfortunately this affliate had his meetings schedule booked a week or two in advance of the show so something so spontanious, last minute, and well short notice wouldn’t have been even considered with the ppv playbook...

Tracking….. Is money left on the table? How important is it?

Tracking….. Is money left on the table? How important is it?

How important is tracking really in affiliate marketing? How important should it be? I tend to think that if you don’t have enough tracking, and gather enough data there could be goldmines in the campaigns that you are currently running. You see tracking is your lifeblood, without it everything will fall apart. Without tracking your destined to failure, pain, and losing loads of $$$$. But if you cant track whats working and whats not, you will at best leave a lot of money on the table because your wasting money on things that aint working.     What to track? At a high level you want to be able to track the performance of: •    campaign targets (url/keywords with cpv, and audience demographics/interests with facebook) •    landing pages & variations •    offers •    day & time of day (some offers perform better at certain times / days, ie dating performs better in the evening at at weekends) How to track? You can track performance in a number of ways: •    No tracking, or using a spreadsheet / pen & paper •    Use tracking features provided by your ad/traffic network •    Using free tools like Google Analytics •    Simple php scripts •    More advanced solutions: tracking 202, cpvlab, bevo The first couple are free. But besides improving your campaign profit, the advanced solutions have a number of additional benefits: •    Rotating landing pages and offers •    Simple to add in additional variants without having to redo your ads •    Auto optimization •    Real time statistics •    Trend analysis How does tracking work? The basic principle of tracking is as followed 1.    The ad campaign loads the campaign url from your tracking solution which rotates the landing pages and registers a view 2.    The landing page links back to tracking url to register the click 3.    The tracking solution then redirects to an offer with a subid reference attached (unique reference – see below) 4.    The conversion pixel fires to notify solution of result Here are some of the key concepts you will need to understand when setting up and using your tracking solution. •    Tracking url: an URL provided by your tracking solution which it...

Sometimes you find surprises if you don’t open your mail in 2 months.

Sometimes you find surprises if you don’t open your mail in 2 months.

Feb 22, 2011

So typically the mail comes to my house and we have a table by the door that I just toss it into, sometimes I flip through it before I do and sometimes I don’t. Every so often the basket I put it in overflows to the point where i have to go through it. So whats in this basket that piles up over a 2 month period you may ask? Local weekly newspapers, various magazines such as website magazine departures feedfront, bills, bank statements for all my companies (yes I have a few), and the occasional phone book or two. Well amongst all this unopened mail there was a Christmas card from Dan Buontempone over at Globalizer and much to my surprise was a starbucks gift card in it. Now some affiliates may not think its a big deal but it is to me, by going that extra mile and writing me a hand written card talking about the ase aff dinner I threw and that he was looking forward to the vegas one among other things stood out in my mind. Now I myself have not done alot of traffic with them but when it comes down to it and I’m looking for an offer just making that extra effort will make me look towards their network instead of some of the others. Why you might be asking, just cause he sent a card with a gift card in it? I’ve always believed this since the day I started in aff marketing that the network is only a small percent of it but a large part is your manager. Does he or she work only 9-5, do they work all hours, can you reach them on the phone anytime you need them as long as they aren’t sleeping, do they wake up in their sleep to answer you call, do they randomly hit you up and text you just to shoot the shit, do they text you on holidays giving you warm wishes? Besides their regular duties does your affiliate manager go the extra mile? Its not always about the money sometimes its about building a personal relationship with your manager. Some managers...

Looking for a Myspace Myads Ad Manager? Look no further…..

Looking for a Myspace Myads Ad Manager? Look no further…..

Oct 21, 2010

As some of you know, and for those who don’t, one of the things I’m know for is the “Wall Of Monitors” on my desk. Truth of the matter is I used them to post and submit ads to a self serve social network platform AHEM across multiple accounts. I made a lot of money doing this but this now isn’t needed anymore. For a couple months I’ve been beta testing a new Ad Manager for Myspace Myads by one of my friends over at Masterdigmads located at http://www.masterdigmads.com/ and I must say it is absolutely amazing. These guys have put together a tool that uses the Myspace Myads api, which anyone can get access to, in order to submit, upload, create, split test, manage, all your Myads accounts and ads in one place. This tool has saved me so much time its not even funny. I would have to setup macros and it would take 15-20 mins and then I would let it run and walk away. When doing it the old way with my macros sometimes there would be errors, it would take a couple hours to submit ads, and I’d have to come back and check on my macros. This tool does it all in a matter of a couple minutes what took me 2-3 hours to do. The amount of time and effort I have to put in now is so little it allows me to concentrate on other campaigns or just go about my daily schedule. Now the guys over at Masterdigmads have decided to open up the tool to people who would be interested in using it. The api tool is a very robust tool encompassing a variety of solutions that many of us Myads users have encountered in the past. As far as what the tool can actually do a small list of some of the features as well as screen shots are located below. If any of you are Myads users and have looked for a tool that would take care and simplify a lot of work we already do with Myads this is the solution for you. The Masterdigmads team will be holding a webinar...

Yahoo Publisher Network closing its doors

Yahoo Publisher Network closing its doors

Mar 31, 2010

I just got this email this morning about my account. I made alot of money with the yahoo publisher network and it was how I got started in internet marketing as a whole. With the recent merger with Bing I guess the beta is now closing its doors after 4 years. Dear Publisher, Yahoo! continuously evaluates and prioritizes our products and services, in alignment with business goals and our continued commitment to deliver the best consumer and advertiser experiences. After conducting an extensive review of the Yahoo! Publisher Network beta program, we have decided to close the program effective April 30, 2010. We expect to deliver final publisher payments for the month ending April 30, 2010 to publishers no later than May 31, 2010. All publishers eligible for 1099s for the 2010 tax year will have those mailed by January 31, 2011. Because our content will no longer be delivered to your ad unit spaces after April 30, 2010, we recommend removing all YPN ad code from your pages by that date. For the opportunity to continue earning revenue, we suggest using Chitika, a leading advertising network that syndicates Yahoo! Content Match and Sponsored Search ads. Chitika has set up a special process for YPNO beta publishers to participate in its platform. Click here for more information. We thank you for your participation in the Yahoo! Publisher Network beta. If you have any questions regarding this announcement, please contact our Support Team at (866) 785-2636, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PDT. Sincerely,  Your Partners at...
