The FTC, Canadian FTC, and what you should know…

The FTC, Canadian FTC, and what you should know…

May 20, 2011

The Federal Trade Commission and Canadian Businesses Most Canadian business owners have never heard of the Competition Bureau, the federal Canadian agency which is responsible for stopping deceptive marketing practices in Canada. More, however, have heard of its American equivalent, the Federal Trade Commission, and with good reason. The FTC is certainly in the news more often, publicized cracking down on fake herbal remedies and shady spyware. And, though most Canadians don’t realize it, the FTC extends its jurisdiction to Canadians who do business with American residents.   Recently, the FTC filed a complaint in a federal district court in Seattle. The complaint accuses a number of individuals and businesses of unfair or deceptive trade practices related to online advertising and sales. What’s surprising about the complaint is that, according to the FTC, “Most of the defendants are located in Alberta.”   These Canadian companies now face a lengthy legal battle in a foreign land, and it if their actions targeted US customers, it is highly unlikely that they will be able to argue that the Federal Trade Commission does not have jurisdiction over them (in addition to the Competition Bureau). Indeed, the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, in FTC v. Compagnie de Saint-Gobain-Pont-a-Mousson, stated, “Federal courts have long acknowledged that the investigatory and regulatory reach of domestic agencies may, and often must, extend across national boundaries.”   So what kinds of consequences can a Canadian face if an FTC case is brought against them? For starters, any injunctions or orders brought in US courts apply to foreign lands. That means that if a Temporary Restraining Order or Permanent Injunction is brought during a trial to order a freeze of a Canadian business owner’s assets and to enjoin him from moving or deleting any of his records, violating that order can bring serious consequences.   The famous “honest services” fraud case of the Canadian businessman Conrad Black comes to mind, in which he was convicted of obstruction of justice for disobeying a Chicago court’s orders by removing records from his Toronto office. He has since had all but one of his fraud convictions overturned on appeal, but because he disobeyed...

$189,000.00 tab at Tryst? Who live like dis?

May 13, 2011

So I was recently checking my twitter and came across a tweet with this receipt in it. The receipt in question appears to be a bill form tryst night club in vegas. Now looking at this receipt it says its from May 5th of this month but the time stamp on it is before midnight. This kinda brings up a question, who spends money like this and cashes out before midnight IN vegas no less? Who live like dis? Well if you follow the link of the image located here http://twitpic.com/4wqv5j some have claimed it to be fake, some still say its real but I guess you have to come to your own conclusion yourself. Either way if it is real, thats one party I wouldn’t have minded being at....

Where I get my business cards, and you should too.

Where I get my business cards, and you should too.

May 12, 2011

This past adtech I got new business cards, it was time for an update to my old ones that I’ve had for a couple years. Everyone who got one of my cards loved them and commented on them and how nice they were. A couple even asked me where I got them from. The company I used was called Taste Of Ink. Now Taste of Ink is a full service company. They designed my card gave me a couple revisions, and then printed them. The overall process took a month from start to finish from submitting the initial design form to reviewing the revisions to printing them and getting them delivered. They do offer an expedited service but I choose not to use it. I ordered a sample pack of the types of cards they can do and the different design elements, I’ve included pics of the sample pack below. The service I received was nothing but stellar. They were always in constant contact every stop of the way and always answered my emails within a prompt amount of time. The ability this company has to design and print everything allowed me to keep everything in house. When I first submitted my design proposal they ask about your company, what you want to convey about your company, and any samples in their gallery that you like the design of. They also ask if you have any company logos or previous psd or ai files to help in the design. Design process takes about a week to week and a half and then the printing takes about the same amount of time. Overall I’m very pleased with the results, I really couldn’t be happier. If you are looking for a new redesign of your cards I highly suggest giving these people a try. For 15% of any online purchase on their site use the promo code “maypromo” and that code is valid until...

How to make tons of facebook pics instantly!

How to make tons of facebook pics instantly!

May 2, 2011

There is a pretty nice way of being able to make tons of images for facbook really fast. When you open up photoshop create the size that facebook allows max, which is 80×110. From there add the images that you want creating a new layer each time as you go. From there resize each image so it only shows what you want it to in your ads. Now just follow the instructions below and it will output every layer to its own images quickly and automatically. Wallah now you were able to create a mass amount of facebook images for your dating, game apps, or any other fb campaigns you are running.   You can export and save layers as individual files using a variety of formats, including PSD, BMP, JPEG, PDF, Targa, and TIFF. Layers are named automatically as they are saved. You can set options to control the generation of names. Choose File > Scripts > Export Layers To Files. In the Export Layers To Files dialog box, under Destination, click Browse to select a destination for the exported files. By default, the generated files are saved in the sample folder as the source file. Enter a name in the File Name Prefix text box to specify a common name for the files. Select the Visible Layers Only option if you want to export only those layers that have visibility enabled in the Layers palette. Use this option if you don’t want all the layers exported. Turn off visibility for layers that you don’t want exported. Choose a file format from the File Type menu. Set options as necessary. Select the Include ICC Profile option if you want the working space profile embedded in the exported file. This is important for color-managed workflows. Click Run.  ...

Adtech San Francisco and the Heavyt Recap.

Adtech San Francisco and the Heavyt Recap.

So as I type this I’m in vegas sitting in a hotel room grinding away relaxing after adtech. This years adtech went pretty well. i feel I made more connections and did more business this adtech than any other I had been to. Surprisingly tho my only gripe at the show was that it was two floors and over half the people I talked to didn’t know there was a second floor. I flew into san fran on sunday and got in around 3pm. I headed over to the clift where I was staying and was immediately greeted by a couple of my friends who didn’t even give me a chance to shower before we went out for drinks. We walked down the street to the daily grill, which had amazing food by the way, and talked for a bit and had an appetizer or two in order to fill my stomach. Afterwards I had a dinner meeting with Lead Cola and a couple other affs. I must say for the next couple hours it was non stop fun, laughing, jokes, and good talk. I never seen so many people have such a good time at a dinner. My impressions of Lead Cola and the people who work there were thoroughly changed. I know alot of people have given them shit about their name but after getting to know them on a one on one basis I’ll be working with them in the future for sure. I read alot of stuff about them on affiliatepaying but what stuck out the most about the reviews were the pay schedules and was payouts, I’ve never known a company to give the highest payouts right away but these guys all you gotta do is ask. Everyone is really streated off the bat and people talking about getting 5 or 6 leads and complaining about payment schedule I’m sure people can be put on weekly wires if they do some volume. I wanted to thank Lead Cola for inviting me to the dinner and paying for the 80 some shots of patron we all had lol. After the dinner the affs and Lead Cola crew along with me...
